Delhi's Transport Department manages vehicle registration through zonal RTOs, with plates beginning DL followed by a zone number and series — like DL-01 for the north zone and DL-3C for private cars in the south. Delhi enforces some of India's strictest emission rules: 10-year-old diesel and 15-year-old petrol vehicles cannot be re-registered in the NCT, which makes NOC and transfer transactions especially common.

Vehicle registration in Delhi
Delhi applies age caps on vehicle registration — diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years are deregistered in the NCT. The city offers significant road-tax and registration incentives for electric vehicles under the Delhi EV Policy. High-security registration plates (HSRP) and colour-coded fuel stickers are mandatory.
